Commandment

The definition of a commandment is a rule that must be obeyed, especially
one handed down by God.  The first commandment with promise is to honor
our mothers and fathers that our days may be long upon the earth.   So, what
does it mean to honor our parents?  To honor is to highly regard or to esteem
someone.  We respect our parents when we listen to their much repeated
stories without comment; when we care for them as the need arises and when
we love them unconditionally.  After all, they loved us through all of our lives.

Inspired by the Holy spirit, Paul wrote, ““Honor your father and mother,” which
is the first commandment with promise:”  Ephesians 6:2 (NKJV)

Today, honor your parents and love them.  They will not always be there with you.
