He’s Coming (Part 3)

These messages regarding the Day of the Lord represent the heart and soul of the Old Testament prophet’s messages of long ago.  Yet they are as relevant today as when they were written.

The prophets Obadiah and Zephaniah agree with the prophets Isaiah and Joel regarding the nearness of the Day of the Lord. “Obadiah 1:15 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. Zephaniah 1:7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. Zephaniah 1:14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.”

Obadiah warns the heathen (unbelievers) regarding their receiving retribution for what they have done. The heathen will be judged and punished according to their actions. Conversely, Zephaniah encourages people initially to be at peace in the presence of the Lord and that the Day of the Lord is at hand. He also reminds us of the sacrifice provided to Christians. Secondly, the seriousness of Zephaniah’s reminder of the nearness of us the Day of the Lord is emphasized by the repetition of his reminder of His nearness.  He says, “the Day of the Lord is near, it is near and hastens (hurries) greatly.” Zephaniah also reminds us of the tears many will shed on the Day of the Lord.  Why tears?  It is simple really, the Day of the Lord will be a joyful day for believers; however, for non-believers, many will cry because the time has passed for their opportunity to receive Jesus and His forgiveness for their sin. Do not be among them. Do not let the time pass.

Today is the day of salvation! If you have never received Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life, ask Him to come into your heart, forgive you of your sins and receive His new life.

Remember God Loves you and I Do Too.
