He’s Coming (Part 5)

In the New Testament, the Day of the Lord is written with the moving thoughts that it will come quickly like a thief.

The apostles Paul and Peter wrote similar declarations – “1 Thessalonians 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Paul merely says the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.  When Jesus was here, he said in Luke 12:39 “And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.”  Jesus was warning people to be on the lookout and not to be caught by surprise. Peter says not only will the Day of the Lord come as a thief in the night, but he also says at that time the heavens shall pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with fervent heat and all the works that are in them shall be burned up.  When God is about to do something, He always warns His people and encourages them/us to repent and turn to Him.

Today is the time to make a decision for Christ, either in repentance or for salvation.  When the Day of the Lord is upon us, it will be too late. If you have never received Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life, ask Him to come into your heart, forgive you of your sins and receive His new life.
